The College of Agricultural Sciences has one of the largest scholarship programs at Penn State. In this academic year, nearly 700 students received more than $1.6 million in scholarships.
More than 300 scholarships are available to undergraduate or graduate students, with some being collegewide and others for specific majors and criteria. The college awards scholarships for internships, study-abroad trips, leadership and academic merit, as well as in cases of financial need.
In addition, there is an Undergraduate Research Grants Program that allows students to participate in their own hands-on, cutting-edge research projects under the tutelage of our world-class faculty. Many students go on and present their research findings at university, regional and international research expositions!
For more information or to apply for a scholarship, students should visit the scholarship page of the college Web site. The deadline to apply for a scholarship this year is April 30.
No question about it, financial aid is a big attraction to the college. Debie Blair, a food science major from Wyalusing, Pa., is an example. She said one big reason she came to Penn State was because of the scholarship opportunities.
"University Park is not too far from my home and I liked that," Blair said. "And with the new building soon to open, the College of Agricultural Sciences is going to have the best food science facilities of all colleges in the country. But the scholarship was a big reason for me."
Blair said she received scholarship offers from Cornell University and Purdue University, and even visited the programs at Purdue and Ohio State University, but she thought Penn State was the best. "I hope I'm well enough off in the future after I graduate that I can give.
