Food Science Scholarships


** DOCUMENTED FINANCIAL NEED REQUIRED

Walter S. Anderson Memorial Scholarship
Principal consideration shall be given to all undergraduate students enrolled full-time in the Department of Dairy and Animal Science who have at least fifth but not more than tenth-semester standing, have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 2.5, and have an interest in dairy production and/or processing. If no recipient is identified in the Department of Dairy and Animal Science, then the scholarship will be awarded to eligible students in the Department of Food Science. Supported annually by the Pennsylvania Association of Milk, Food, and Environmental Sanitarians.

 

** Andrews Family Scholarship
Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all full-time undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll in the College of Agricultural Sciences at The Pennsylvania State University who have achieved a minimum 2.5 grade-point average (on a 4.0) scale, are from Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and have a demonstrated financial need. First preference shall be given to students who graduated from Mount Pleasant High School. The selection should be based on the following criteria (in order of importance): entering freshmen, extent of financial need, extracurricular involvement, and Food Science majors.

 

Beliasov Family Scholarship in Food Science
This scholarship is open to all full-time undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll in Food Science who have achieved or show promise of outstanding academic success. Endowed by Alec J. and Lexi C. Beliasov.

 

** Larry and Lisa Campbell Scholarship
Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all full-time undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll in the College of Agricultural Sciences at The Pennsylvania State University who have achieved superior academic records or who manifest promise of outstanding academic success, and who have demonstrated financial need. The recipient must have a minimum 2.5 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale. First preference shall be given to graduates of Greenwood High School (Perry County, Pennsylvania). Second preference shall be given to students that graduated from a high school located in Perry County, Pennsylvania. Third preference shall be given to other students in Pennsylvania. For each preference group the selection should be based on the following criteria (in order of importance): entering freshmen, extent of financial need, extracurricular involvement, students who are among the first generation in their families to attend college or a university, and Food Science majors.

 

Earl and Veronica Casida Graduate Fellowship in Microbial Food Safety
Consideration for this fellowship shall be given to all full-time graduate students exhibiting academic excellence who have been admitted as candidates for a graduate degree in the Department of Food Science with a focus on microbial food safety. Endowed by Earl and Veronica Casida.

 

** Frank S. and Nina Cobb Grant-in-Aid
Consideration shall be given to all students currently enrolled or planning to enroll in the Department of Food Science who have achieved positive academic records or show promise of academic success and have documented financial need. Endowed by Frank S. and Nina Cobb.

 

The Chester D., Agnes H., and Robert Dahle Memorial Scholarship
Funds are available to all full-time senior students enrolled in Food Science who have superior academic records and who show promise of outstanding academic and professional success. Endowed by family and friends of Chester D. Dahle.

 

** Michael J. Daly Memorial Award Fund
Consideration shall be given to all full-time students currently enrolled in Food Science who have achieved superior academic records and have documented financial need. Endowed in memory of Michael J. Daly.

 

Janet G. and Frank J. Dudek Graduate Scholarship in Food Science
Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all full-time graduate students enrolled or planning to enroll in the Department of Food Science, College of Agricultural Sciences, who have achieved superior academic records or who manifest promise of academic success.

 

Forbes Chocolate Leadership Award
This award is open to all undergraduate students who have at least fourth-semester standing in Food Science. Endowed by the Benjamin P. Forbes Company.

 

** The John H. Hetrick Memorial Endowed Scholarship in Food Science
Consideration shall be given to all full-time undergraduate and graduate students who are currently enrolled or are planning to enroll in the Department of Food Science and who have achieved superior academic records or show promise of outstanding academic success and have documented financial need. Endowed in memory of John H. Hetrick.

 

Dean and Harriet Girton Scholarship in Food Science
Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all full time freshman students enrolled or planning to enroll in Food Science in the College of Agricultural sciences at  The Pennsylvania State University who have achieved superior academic records or who manifest promise of outstanding academic success.

 

** Fred and Florence Jacobson Food Science Graduate Scholarships
Consideration shall be given to all full-time graduate students enrolled or planning to enroll in the Food Science major who are active participants in the Food Science Club, demonstrate superior academic achievement, and have documented financial need. Preference shall be given to students studying chocolate and confectionery. Endowed by Fred and Florence Jacobson.

 

** The Kellogg Company Food Science Scholarship
Consideration shall be given to all students enrolled or planning to enroll in Food Science who are or will be in their junior or senior years of study. Candidates must have achieved or show promise of achieving superior academic success and have documented financial need. Supported annually by the Kellogg Company.

 

** Herbert E. Longenecker Trustee Matching Scholarship
Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll in the College of Agricultural Sciences at The Pennsylvania State University who have a demonstrated financial need. First preference shall be given to students who are enrolled in the Food Science major within the College of Agricultural Sciences who have a demonstrated financial need.

 

Mars Incorporated Graduate Scholarship in Food Science
Consideration for the scholarship shall be given to all full time graduate students who are currently enrolled or are planning to enroll in the M.S. degree program in Food Science, College of Agricultural Sciences of The Pennsylvania State University, who have achieved outstanding academic records or manifest promise of academic success, are U.S. citizens, have demonstrated academic achievement and skills in areas other than science, have shown leadership capabilities in activities associated with campus life, and have a proven financial need.

 

** Robert D. and Jeanne L. McCarthy Graduate Teaching Award and Graduate Scholarship.
Consideration shall be given to all full-time graduate students enrolled in the Department of Food Science who have achieved superior academic records and have proven financial need. Endowed in memory of Dr. Robert D. and Jeanne L. McCarthy.

 

Ira W. Minter Memorial Award
Consideration for this award shall be given to all full-time graduate students currently enrolled in the Department of Food Science who have demonstrated exemplary progress in the previous academic year. Preference shall be given to students whose studies relate to chocolate and confectionery science and technology.

 

Pennsylvania Dairy Innovation Scholarship for the Department of Food Science in the College of Agricultural Sciences Sponsored by the Pennsylvania Dairy Promotion Program
Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to all full-time undergraduate students enrolled in the Department of Food Science in the College of Agricultural Sciences at The Pennsylvania State University who have a minimum grade-point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale). Preference shall be given to a student who has demonstrated achievement with innovative research in the dairy industry.

 

Pennsylvania Food Merchants Association Educational Trust Scholarship
Consideration shall be given to all full-time undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology or the Department of Food Science. Preference for this scholarship shall be given to those students who have expressed an interest in retail food marketing. Supported annually by the Pennsylvania Food Merchants Educational Trust Foundation.

 

** Gail Gilman Prescott Scholarship in Food Science
Consideration shall be given to all full-time undergraduate students enrolled or planning to enroll in the Department of Food Science who have achieved superior academic records or show promise of outstanding academic success and have documented financial need. Endowed by Mr. Roy E. Prescott.

 

** William Rosskam Memorial Scholarship
Consideration shall be given to full-time graduate students in Food Science who have achieved superior academic records or show promise of outstanding academic success and have documented financial need. Endowed by family and friends of William B. Rosskam II and the David Michael Company, Inc.

 

Mark and Nancy Speizer Undergraduate Research Fund in Food Science
Consideration for student research support shall be given to all full-time undergraduate students in good academic standing who are enrolled in the Department of Food Science. Endowed by Mark S. and Nancy V. Speizer.

 

Edwin M. Wagner Memorial Scholarship
Principal consideration shall be given to all undergraduate students who are enrolled full-time in the Department of Food Science, have at least fifth but not more than tenth-semester standing, have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 2.5, and have an interest in dairy production and/or dairy processing. If no recipient is identified in the Department of Food Science, the scholarship will be awarded to eligible students in the Department of Dairy and Animal Science. Supported annually by the Pennsylvania Association of Milk, Food, and Environmental Sanitarians.

 

** The Star Kay White Scholarship in Food Science
Consideration shall be given to all full-time undergraduate and graduate students enrolled or planning to enroll in Food Science to study frozen dessert technology, production, and safety who demonstrate academic achievement and have documented financial need. Endowed by Star Kay White, Inc.
