All students participating in the MSAA Program must follow specific rules and regulations. Failure by an individual or individuals to cooperate with these rules can result in immediate dismissal from the program.
Disciplinary Actions
Depending on the seriousness and frequency of the violation(s), disciplinary actions will range from monetary fines (deducted from student stipends) to dismissal from the program.
Research Assignment Attendance
Performance of assigned research duties is mandatory and students are expected to be on time for every appointment.
Curfew
Sunday through Thursday 10:00 p.m. in the residence hall -- 11:00 p.m. in your room.
Friday and Saturday 11:00 p.m. in the residence hall -- 1:00 a.m. in your room.
The doors of the residence hall will be locked every evening at curfew. Campus security will patrol the residence hall area every night from 10:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m.
Drugs
Pennsylvania and Federal law prohibit the possession, sale, or use of drugs. Therefore, drugs are also prohibited by the University and the MSAA program. Possession, sale, or use of any controlled substance will subject the student to disciplinary action including suspension, dismissal and/or legal prosecution.
Alcoholic Beverages
Absolutely no alcoholic beverages will be permitted in the residence hall . The student is not permitted to drink alcoholic beverages at any time during the five-week stay at the University. Students may not attend fraternity or apartment parties or any other social events at which alcohol is served.
Gambling
Gambling is prohibited by the law in Pennsylvania and is not permitted on University property.
Visitation
MSAA students are not permitted to visit or to have visits from members of the opposite sex in their residence hall rooms. Also, MSAA students may not visit college age students in their dorm rooms, fraternity houses or apartments with the exception of program administrators.
Quiet Hours
There will be enforced quiet/study hours Sunday through Thursday evenings in specific residence hall areas.
Visitation
No MSAA student may go into a private apartment, home or fraternity house unless as a participant in a scheduled MSAA group activity or with the written approval of the program counselor or director. Violation of this rule will result in immediate dismissal from the program. (No exceptions or excuses will be accepted!)
No MSAA student may go beyond the boundaries of the main eating/shopping area in town--bordered on the west by Atherton Street (Rte. 322); on the east by the east side of Sowers Street; on the south by the north side of Beaver Avenue; and on the north by the Penn State campus. Exceptions are allowed when performing research assignments or accompanied by an assigned research mentor. Violation of this rule will result in immediate dismissal from the program.
No MSAA student may have a car on campus nor get into any private car without the express written permission of the program counselor of director. Exceptions are allowed when performing research assignments or accompanied by an assigned research mentor.
These rules are for the protection of the student and the program. VIOLATIONS WILL BE TREATED AS SERIOUS OFFENSES!
