Students for the Responsible Use of Animals (SRUA)
SRUA members concern themselves with current issues of animal welfare, care, and use. The purpose of this group is to promote the improvement of animal welfare, increase the awareness of animal use in agriculture among students of the University and the community, and bring about enhanced animal well-being. During the semester there are bimonthly meetings that consist of a speaker on an area of interest to the group followed by a business meeting. Some of the club's activities include animal-assisted therapy at local nursing homes and youth centers, Penn State animal facility tours for elementary students, development and staffing of the Farm Animal Learning Center at the Pennsylvania Farm Show and Ag Progress Days, exhibits at several commodity and trade association events, tours of state and national animal facilities, and development of pamphlets and newsletters for primary and secondary students. The club is open to any student with the desire to learn about the issues facing animal agriculture today.
